A small beginning for your next page

Some days the hardest part is knowing where to start. Explore 200 journal prompts across 8 themes, and find a question that fits today. One sentence is enough.

Find your starting point

What’s on your mind?

Choose a prompt theme

200 prompts. No perfect answers.
A sentence is plenty.

Small wins

What is one small thing you did today that you want to give yourself credit for?

Your words stay in this tab and aren’t sent to Meadow. Switching prompts keeps your drafts until you refresh or leave. Download anything you want to keep.

Use the space here, your own notebook, or just a quiet moment. You can skip any prompt.

How to use the journal prompt generator

Choose a theme that fits the day, or leave it on A little of everything. Read the question and see if it gives you somewhere to start. If it does not, choose Another prompt. You do not owe every question an answer.

Write in the space above, in your notebook, or in a notes app. A few words count. A list counts. You can stop halfway through a sentence if that is all you need.

8 ways to begin

Small wins

Notice what you did, however small. For example:

What is one small thing you did today that you want to give yourself credit for?

Gratitude

There is room for the good alongside everything else. For example:

What small comfort have you appreciated recently?

Daily check-in

Start with how things are, right now. For example:

What has been taking up the most space in your mind today?

A difficult day

You do not have to find a silver lining. For example:

What do you wish someone understood about your day?

Weekly reflection

Look back without giving yourself a grade. For example:

Which moment from this week would you like to remember?

Self-discovery

Get to know what matters to you. For example:

What do you enjoy even when you are not especially good at it?

Relationships

Reflect on connection, care, and boundaries. For example:

Who do you feel most at ease around, and what makes that possible?

Rest & reset

Make a little room to put things down. For example:

What kind of rest sounds appealing right now?

When the page stays blank

Try describing the room you are in, one thing that happened today, or the thought you keep coming back to. You can also begin with “I don’t know what to write.” There is no audience to impress.

If finding a feeling word would help, explore the feelings wheel first. You can bring a word back to your journal without having to explain it perfectly.

Keeping what you write

Your draft stays with its prompt while this tab is open. Previous prompt lets you return to earlier questions and their drafts. Refreshing or leaving the page clears those drafts, so download anything you want to keep.

Copy prompt copies only the question. Download entry saves the current question and your words in a text file. Print / save as PDF makes a printable entry, with writing lines if you have left it blank. These options are free and do not ask for an email address.

Make it small enough to come back to

If you would like to write more often, try attaching one sentence to something you already do: after making tea, closing your laptop, or getting into bed. The free habit tracker gives you somewhere to mark the days you write, with no streaks to break.

A few honest words are a whole entry.

one sentence, one small habit

Meadow: a gentle habit tracker with no streaks

Noticing one small win can be a habit of its own. In Meadow, each day you do a habit grows a wildflower. Miss a day and everything you have grown stays.

questions

About the journal prompts

How does the journal prompt generator work?

Choose a theme or leave it on “A little of everything,” then choose Another prompt. Prompts are shuffled from a collection of 200 written by Meadow. Within a theme, the generator works through the collection before starting again. They are not generated by AI when you use the tool.

What should I write if I am new to journaling?

Start with one sentence that answers the question in front of you. You can use a list, a few words, or an unfinished thought. There is no required length, structure, or daily commitment.

Are my journal entries private?

Your writing stays in memory in the open tab. It is not sent to Meadow or saved to an account or browser storage. Switching prompts keeps a separate draft for each prompt until you refresh or leave the page. Download or print anything you want to keep.

Can I go back to an earlier prompt?

Yes. Previous prompt walks back through the prompts you have seen in this tab, including any draft you wrote for each one. After going back, Another prompt starts a new path from that point.

Can I save or print a prompt?

Copy prompt copies the question. Download entry saves the current question and your writing as a text file. Print / save as PDF opens the browser’s print dialog with the current entry, or a lined writing page if you have not typed anything.

Do I have to journal every day?

No. Come back when it feels useful. If you want to make it a habit, choose something small enough to fit an ordinary day, such as one sentence after your morning tea. Missing a day does not undo anything you have written.
